Sexton fought and defeated Paul Bonson in a successful 6 round debut. The decision was left to the judges after the final bell in a PTS result favouring Sexton. Pushing his career further, Sexton fought Martin Rogan on May 15th, 2009 adding to his winning record. Rogan was a worthy challenger but Sexton was too much and became the first person to stop Rogan via TKO during round 8. Another win followed for Sexton taking his win tally to 13 wins.
Sexton lost to Dereck Chisora in his next fight. Taking place on September 18th, 2010, Sexton's career record after this fight stood at 13-2-0. Sexton fought Dereck Chisora and was defeated via TKO in the 12 round bout. This was Sexton's 2nd stoppage defeat in his career which came in the 9th round. Sexton fought boxers including Remigijus Ziausys and Larry Olubamiwo and he went on to win another 2 fights.
Sexton's career took a knock with a loss against David Price on May 19th, 2012 taking his record to 15-3-0. Sexton was beaten by David Price in the 4th round. Sexton had only ever been stopped 3 times previously in his career. 4 wins followed where Sexton went on to be the 2nd person to stop Tayar Mehmed (Round 2 TKO), 4th person to go the distance with Larry Olubamiwo and 10th person to beat Jiri Svacina.
Sexton kept his losses at 3 by beating Tomas Mrazek on November 20th, 2015. Sexton was the 52nd person to beat Tomas Mrazek where he showed his talent as a technical boxer, beating him over 6 rounds in his 23rd professional fight.
The wins continued with the defeat of Peter Erdos on March 4th, 2016 in Sexton's most recent fight taking his winning record to 21 wins. Ending via TKO, Sexton became the 5th fighter to stop Erdos. The defeat came in the 4th round of a 6 round fight.
