Having started off in the pro game in October 2007 and having built a perfect unbeaten record of 22-0-1, Velez (age 36) now looks to move into the later stages of his career and step up against some of the top prospects in the division. He started his best winning streak on October 2007 however, this came to an end on April 2014. In this period he won a total of 22 fights.
In October 2007 Velez faced Luis Cuascut in his debut bout over 4 rounds, but only 1 were needed as Velez became the quickest person ever to stop Cuascut via a 1 round KO victory. Velez then went on to win his next 12 fights - fighting once in 2007, 4 times in 2008 and 7 times through 2009 and 2010 racking up wins against Robert Daluz, Pedro Rincon miranda and Jesus Bayron amongst others.
Next was Jesse Padilla on October 17th, 2008 where Velez took the win continuing his unbeaten streak. Padilla was a worthy challenger but Velez was too much and became the first person to stop Padilla via TKO during round 1. 4 wins followed where Velez went on to be the 2nd person to stop Jesus Bayron, 4th person to stop Luis daniel Colon (Round 4 TKO) and 4th person to stop Javier Ramos (Round 1 TKO).
Jesse Padilla was Velez's next fight on August 29th, 2009 and also his next win in his career. The 8 round fight ended in the 3rd round via TKO crowning Velez as only the 2nd to stop Padilla in his career. 4 wins followed for Velez including being the 9th person to stop Pedro Rincon miranda, 3rd person to stop Juan g Cruz (Round 3 TKO) and 6th person to defeat Isaac Hidalgo.
On February 4th, 2011 Velez fought and beat Jhon alberto Molina (28-14-3) to continue his unbeaten streak. Velez was the 5th person to stop Jhon alberto and he did it in the 5th round via TKO. Fights against Jose angel Beranza, Leivi Brea, Jonathan Arias and 1 other followed where he won all 4 fights taking his winning streak to 19 wins.
Velez entered his next fight with 19 wins and took this to 20 with a win against Salvador Sanchez on December 1st, 2012. Sanchez proved to be no match for Velez, and Velez became the first person to stop Sanchez via TKO during round 3. Velez then went on to win again against Dat Nguyen setting him up well for his next pro fight.
Furthering his career, Velez fought Miguel Soto on April 28th, 2014 and advanced his winning streak to 22 wins. The win came in the 2nd round of a 10 round fight via TKO. Velez was the 2nd person to stop Miguel in his career.
The unbeaten run continued with a draw against Evgeny Gradovich on November 29th, 2014 taking his record to 22-0-1 In a close fight over 12 rounds, there wasn't much to split Velez and Evgeny Gradovich. The fight ended in a disappointing SD draw.
